The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console produced by Nintendo. It was first released in 2011 and is the successor to the Nintendo DS. The 3DS features backwards compatibility with most DS games, as well as a library of its own games and applications. It is known for its distinctive clamshell design, with two screens: a lower touch screen and an upper 3D screen that can be viewed with glasses-free 3D technology. The 3DS also has motion sensors, a microphone, and support for online play and digital downloads. It was succeeded by the Nintendo 2DS and the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
